John Patrick (Pat) Hickey of Clarksville, VA passed away on September 23, 2024 at the age of 76. He was born in Washington D.C. on March 31, 1948 to the late William Aloysius Hickey and the late Ruth Dawson Hickey. Pat served in the United States Army for 2 years and was a Vietnam veteran. He retired as a telephone installer with AT&T after more than 40 years of service. He was a very talented athlete and loved everything "baseball." He was a softball player and later coach with the men on Mo's Rockfish Team in Bowie, MD. He also coached a team at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD for many years. Pat was an avid pro- baseball fan and regularly followed the Nationals and Baltimore Orioles. Pat's second love was bowling. He was a fantastic DUCK pin bowler in Maryland. He converted to TEN pins after he retired to Virginia. Once in Clarksville he joined a team in South Boston. When he could no longer bowl, he proudly sponsored the "Hickey's Pride" Team. His woodworking hobby gave his family and friends such treasures as boat- shaped bookcases, wishing wells, and beautiful deer and Christmas sleighs. He enjoyed traveling and made wonderful trips to Anchorage, Alaska and Denali, also to New England and Canda with his sister in the early 2000's. Now that Pat is out of pain, he is probably back to playing his beloved softball in heaven. Pat is survived by his brother, William A. Hickey (Joyce) of Clarksville, VA; sisters, Ruth (Betty) Miller (William) of Clarksville, Beverly Keen of Clarksville, and Charlotte Anders of Lothian, MD. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be held November 16, 2024 at 1:00PM at Jamieson Memorial Methodist Church. A reception with a lucheon buffet will follow.
