John Louis Howerton of Nathalie passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2023 at the age of 73. He was born in Halifax County on January 2, 1950 to the late Louis Grett Howerton and the late Virginia Louise Link.
John was a graduate of Bluestone High School, Class of 1966 and a member of Buffalo Baptist Tabernacle. He retired from Burlington Industries with 33 years of service as a finisher and in maintenance. He was a fixer, enjoying taking things apart and putting them back together. A people person, he loved to make people laugh by telling jokes. He loved a garden and giving away the veggies to family and friends. John will be known as being a very kind hearted person and easy going and will be missed by all.
He is survived by daughters, Jennifer McGeorge (Darby) and Margaret Jackson (Keith); grandchildren, Jonathan Heldreth, Tyler Bentley, Matthew Beamon, Ashley McGeorge, Katelyn Mack, and Payton Wooding; great grandchildren, Shiloh Heldreth, Stormy Heldreth, Jack Heldreth, Tre McGeorge, Chenning McGeorge, Michelle Mack, Ryleigh Bentley, Aubree Wooding and Braxton Wooding; sisters, Eunice Risland, Mary Walker and Sarah Evans; and brothers, David Howerton, Timothy Howerton and Mark Howerton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James Howerton.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Buffalo Baptist Tabernacle. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home.
