John Lee Whitt

Mr. John Lee Whitt, Sr. of 1130 Whitt Loop, Alton, VA died Friday, June 17, 2011 at the age of 81. He was born in Halifax Co., VA on December 12, 1929 to the late Raymond Leroy Whitt and the late Nora Murray Whitt and was married to Christine Pleasant Whitt. Mr. Whitt was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was a retired time keeper at H.B. Zachary. He was of the Methodist faith, was a member of the Elks Lodge in Roxboro, NC, and was a AmVets member. Survivors include his wife, Christine Pleasant Whitt of Alton, VA; four daughters, Sandra Whitt Yarboro and husband, Randy of Roxboro, NC, Gail Whitt Long and husband, Earl of Alton, VA, Sharon Whitt Burkholder of Virgilina, VA, and Marcia Lynn Whitt and special friend, Jamie Shepard of Alton; a son, John Lee Whitt, Jr. of Alton; five grandchildren, Michael Talley, Kristi Perkins, Ashley Reaves, Trey Burkholder, and Bianca Newman; and three great grandchildren, Abby Church, Morgan Talley, and Brett Perkins. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 19, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Shady Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. George Gorman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Saturday, June 18, 2011 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and at other times at the home.
