John Mason Newcomb

John M. Newcomb, age 60, passed away at The Woodview on June 5, 2012 to go be with his Lord. John was born August 23, 1951 to the late Lizzie P. Newcomb and John M. Newcomb, Sr.. He graduated from Halifax County High School in 1969. He was a construction worker and crane operator for W.C. English Construction for 20 years. John was preceded in death by his mother and father, his brother, James Newcomb, his sister, Mary N. Lacks and two nephews, Harry and Dean Newcomb. He is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Violet Rice Newcomb; four sons, Perry and Joyce Ann Newcomb, John Presley and Rebecca Newcomb, James Loyd, and Jerry and Roxanne Loyd; his brother, Joe and Shirley Newcomb; six grandchildren, Heather and Chris Loyd, Brandon and Joshua Loyd, Skye Newcomb, and Alexis Green; a great grandson, Dylan Smith; several nieces and nephews; a special cousin, Donna Martin; a brother-in-law, Billy Rice; and nephew, Roger Rice. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 9 at 2:00 PM at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Jordan officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Laurel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home Friday, June 8 from 7 until 8:30 PM and at other times at the home of Presley Newcomb, 5010 Green Level Rd., Scottsburg.
