John Thurman Owen

SOUTH BOSTON, VA Mr. John Thurman Owen passed away on Monday, November 18, 2019 at the age of 71.He was born in Halifax County on March 10, 1948 to the late Lloyd Carter Owen and the late Penta Turner Owen and was married to Frances Terry Owen. He was a member of Arbor Baptist Church and a part-time truck driver for W.J. Hastings Trucking Company. He was a veteran, having served his country in the U.S. Navy.His children and grandchildren were his life. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Andy Owen and wife Crystal; daughter, Ginny Watts and Josh Perkins; grandchildren, A. J. Owen, Jr, Abbie Worley and husband Will, Dawson Watts, and Alley Norton; step grandchildren, Aaron Brown, Kailyn Brown and Clinton Brown; great grandchildren, Ava Worley and Emma Worley; sisters, Ruth Owen Gregory and Carole Owen Lovelace. A Celebration of Life will be Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Brooks Lyon Betty B. Jones Chapel with Reverend Larry Davis officiating.Interment will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens with military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, 10:00-11:00 AM at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home and other times at the home.
