John Michael "Mike" Wilmoth

HALIFAX - Mr. John Michael "Mike" Wilmoth of Halifax, VA died Thursday, July 7, 2016 at the age of 46. He was born on September 5, 1969 to the late John Marshall Wilmoth, Jr. and the late Delilah Matz Wilmoth. Mike was a man who cared deeply for his children and family, putting them above all else, including himself. He worked tirelessly to provide his youngest son, Decker, with the life he deserved and continued to guide his oldest son, Brian, through the early stages of his adulthood. He often advised his sons that family (no matter how crazy) always came first. His passions were sometimes fleeting but always very deep. He loved all things fast, with a special place in his heart for automobiles and roller coasters. Video games were his hobby of choice, but never took the place of helping with homework or daily chores. His most endearing quality was his sense of humor. Mike could make anyone laugh and he was loved deeply by any who were close to him. He will be missed. He is survived by his sons, Decker Reid Wilmoth and Brian Christopher Wilmoth; sisters, Carrie Peeden, her husband Jeff, and children and Cristie Marie Moss, husband Andy, and her children; grandmother, Dorothy B. Wilmoth; aunts, Eileen Thacker and Linda Wilmoth; and uncle, Wayne Wilmoth. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Brooks Lyon Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. May he rest in peace. God knows he’s earned it.
