John Wayne Wilson

SOUTH BOSTON - Mr. John Wayne Wilson, husband of Carolyn Davis Wilson, of South Boston passed away on Friday, August 21, 2020 at the age of 76. He was born in Halifax County on May 26, 1944 the son of the late Johnny R. Wilson and the late Mary Poole Knott. Wayne proudly served his nation as a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a partner and mechanic at Ratliff Service Center and a member of Grace Baptist Church. His family was his life and he loved to travel, to work in his yard, and to watch NASCAR. Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carolyn; son, David Wilson and wife, Sherri; grandchildren, Joseph Wilson, Jacob Wilson, Andrew Jones, and Josh Lindsey; brother, Glenn Wilson; sisters, Debi Roll and Elaine Thornton; and special friend, George Briley. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister, Cheryl Wilson. Services will be held on Monday, August 24, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Grace Baptist Church with the Reverend Jack Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Virgilina Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home on Sunday, August 23 from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM and at other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Grace Baptist Church, Sentara Halifax Hospice, or the Halifax Co. Cancer Society.
