Johnnie William Rice

VIRGILINA Mr. Johnnie William Rice of Virgilina, passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2021. He was born in Halifax County on October 29, 1928 to the late Johnnie Walter Rice and the late Rosa Morris Rice and was married to the late Julia Welcher Rice. Johnnie loved old cars, his animals, the Red Bank Opera and was a hard-working man. He loved sitting on the front porch watching his hummingbirds. He was the owner and operator of Action Mechanical Heating and Air Conditioning. Survivors include daughters, Judy Meeler and Russell of South Boston, Renay Wilborn and Junior of Virgilina and Paula Stone and Tim of Virgilina; daughter-in-law, Judy B. Rice; grandchildren, Tammie Taylor, Tommie Rice and Melinda, Carolyn Ridge and Jonathan, Shawn Wilborn and Melissa, Chelsea Lacks and Colby, Lindsey Stone, Sidney Stone and Haley Thames; 8 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and special caregivers, Brittney Nester, Jessica Kittrell, Donna Wheeler, Michele Mills, Debbie Hite, Sandra Stone, Rebecca Kittrell and Amanda Lewis. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by son, Ray Rice; grandchild, Lance Thames; brother, Thomas James Rice; and special friend, Roosevelt Stone. Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at Union Christian Church in Virgilina with Reverend Norman Talley officiating. Interment will follow in Virgilina Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 25 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home.
