Johnny Lewis Talley, a cherished resident of Clarksville, VA, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 14th, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on March 18th, 1946, Johnny lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication, leaving behind a legacy that will be treasured by his family and friends.
Johnny was a proud alumnus of the Bluestone High School Class of 1964, where he first showcased his passion for baseball, pitching for the school team and later for the Connie Mack baseball league. His love for the sport continued throughout his life, and he was an ardent supporter of the University of Virginia. A devoted fan of the Carolina Hurricanes, Johnny's enthusiasm for hockey was infectious, and he never missed an opportunity to cheer on his team or attend a game.
His career was marked by hard work and dedication, with many years spent at Burlington Industries before retiring from Revlon. In his later years, Johnny most recently worked at Food Lion and embraced a variety of fun jobs that brought him joy and fulfillment in between. Johnny proudly served his country in the Army, an experience that instilled in him a deep sense of honor and commitment. His love for life extended beyond his professional and military endeavors; he was a spirited dancer, with The Twist being his favorite. Each spring, he eagerly awaited the return of the birds, delighting in feeding them and celebrating the season's renewal.
Johnny is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn Overton Talley, his daughter, Tammy Reavis-Bailey (Todd); grandsons, Nicholas Bailey (Taylor), and Cpl. Benjamin Bailey; great-granddaughter, Harper Grace; niece, Alyson Talley Elliott (Michael); and their children Jane Clare, Mitchell, and Thomas Elliott; and sister-in-law, Nancy Collins Talley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Mildred Gould Talley, and his brother, Frankie Stephen Talley. Johnny's memory will be cherished by all who knew him, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
A memorial service to celebrate Johnny's life will be held on Tuesday, March 18th, 2025 at 2:00pm at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watkins-Cooper-Lyon Funeral Home, where family and friends will gather to honor a man who brought joy and warmth to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In lieu of flowers, Johnny's family asks that donations be made to Lake Country SPCA.
