Joseph Gerard Hebert, 88, passed into eternal life on Tuesday, July, 24, 2013. Mr. Hebert died at his home in Skipwith, Virginia with his loving family. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Henry and Donelda Hebert and his loving wife Evelyn Savelle Hebert. Born in Plainfield, Connecticut, Mr. Hebert lived most of his life in Torrington, Connecticut before moving with his wife to Creedmoor, North Carolina. He spent the last few years of his life living with his daughter and son-in-law in Skipwith, Virginia. Mr. Hebert is a WW II Veteran and served his country as a U.S. Marine. After returning from the war and marrying his sweetheart he worked for the Torrington Company until retirement. Mr. Hebert was a proud brother of the Knights of Columbus and a life member with over 44years of service. During these years he has served the Knights as a Grand Knight, Faithful Navigator, District Deputy at the state and council level, and Color Corp Commander. He proudly participated in the LAMB Foundation, helping those with intellectual disabilities and supporting the Special Olympics. Mr. Hebert spent many years helping children through county 4-H clubs. Joseph is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Joseph G., Jr. and Sally Hebert of Ormond by the Sea, Florida; his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and John Ratcliff of Skipwith; brother-in-law, Antony Mollica of San Jose, CA; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Albert and Betty Saville of Castleton, N.Y. Six grandchildren and their spouses, Lisa and Jay McColgan of Vienna, Va, Todd Mayer of Williamsburg, Va, Brian and Stephanie Mayer, stationed in Ohio; Christopher and Becky Mayer of Holly Hills, N.C., Kelly Mayer of Clarksville, Va and Amber Ball of Skipwith, Va.; great grandchildren Austin, Chelsea, Zachary, Luke, Dominick, Sky, Camoren, Ian, Abby, and Justin; and seven nieces and nephews also survive. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Parish, Clarksville, Virginia on Saturday, July 27 at 10:00 AM. Friends may call at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home from 7-9pm Friday and at Glessons Mortuary in Torrington Connecticut on Tuesday, July 30th from 7:00 to 9:00pm. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Torrington, Connecticut on Wednesday, July 31, at 10:00AM with a graveside service.
