CLARKSVILLE , VA. Joseph "Joe" Hinton Tucker, Jr., 80, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 12, 2015.Joe was born January 17, 1934, in Nash County, NC, to the late Joseph Hinton Tucker, Sr. and Lillie Gay Tucker.As a young boy he moved with his family to Durham, NC.He served his country in the United States Army from 1954 until 1956.He retired from Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company, where he was employed for 40 years.During those 40 years, he also worked part time with Retail Clerk's Union as a business agent.Joe was the President of the Tobacco Workers Union for ten years and was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Oak Grove Lodge # 750. The Tuckers moved to Clarksville in 1988, to help their son-in-law and daughter establish Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home, where he continued to be on staff until his death.Joe accepted Christ and served faithfully in leadership roles at Faith Baptist Church in Durham, NC.Upon moving to Clarksville, he continued to serve Christ and was a faithful member of Clarksville Baptist Church.He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Cordelia Hayes Tucker; his parents, Joseph H., Sr. and Lillie Tucker; and his sister, Lucille Tucker Champion. Joe is survived by his son, Reverend Joseph “Joey” H. Tucker, III, and daughter and son-in-law, Reverend Jane Tucker and Michael R. Lyon; and granddaughter, Reverend Allison Kristen Tucker of Charlotte, NC.Also surviving are his aunts Margie Gay Shifflett of Oxford, NC, and Alice Gay of Nashville, NC; three sisters-in-law, Wanda Seate and her husband, Reverend Doctor Billy Seate of Rocky Mount, NC; Carol Painter and her husband, Jimmy of Timberlake, NC; and Brenda Hayes of Durham, NC; and many loving nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday at Clarksville Baptist Church with the Reverend Doctor Greg Randall and Reverend Doctor Billy Seate officiating.Interment will be private.The family will receive friends Friday from 9 - 10:30 am at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home, and at other times at his daughter and son-in-law's residence, Jane and Michael Lyon.Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.wclfh.com .Contributions may be made to Mecklenburg County Life Saving and Rescue Squad, or Duke University Divinity School, Baptist House of Studies, PO Box 90966, Durham, NC 27708.
