Josephine Oakes Cole

Mrs. Josephine Oakes Cole of 2082 Old Grubby Rd., South Boston died Monday January 25, 2010 at the age of 88. Mrs. Cole was born in Halifax Co. on April 1, 1921 to the late Willie Issac and Lucy Wilbourne Oakes and was married to George Stover Cole, Sr.. She was a homemaker and a member of Black Walnut Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Carolyn Switzer of High Point, NC and Jane Cole Rose of South Boston; a son, George Stover Cole, Jr. of Gastonia, NC; seven grandchildren, Greg Meeks, David Meeks, Lindsey Rose Cole, Melissa Rose Woodruff, Emily Cole, Kelly Cole, and Marilyn Vera-Cole; and three great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother. Funeral services for Mrs. Cole will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Black Walnut Baptist Church with Rev. Raymond Wooten, Rev. Jack Stewart, and Rev. Larry Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home Tuesday night from 7 until 8:30 PM and at other times at the home.
