ALTON Josephine Wallace “Granny Jo” Evans, age 89, of Alton, VA went to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, December 19, 2019 while surrounded by her loving family.She was born on March 19, 1930 to the late William Wallace and the late Rosa Franklin Wallace.Since 2007, she has been an honorary member of the South Boston Volunteer Fire Company as well as a member of Black Walnut Baptist Church and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and was the owner/operator of Riverdale Dairy Dell. Granny Jo’s first love was her family, including her Dairy Dell employees many of whom she mentored through the years.Playing bingo and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and activities were her favorite pass times. Surviving are two daughters, Rachel Throckmorton and husband Neil of Myrtle Beach, SC and Ramona Bowen and husband Cecil of Alton, VA; one son, Pete Davis and wife Pam of Fort Payne, AL; a step-son, Scott Evans and wife Sharon of Alton, VA; grandchildren Brian Throckmorton and wife Chrystal, Christopher Throckmorton and wife Brianna, Heather Salley and husband Steve, Kelly Worley and husband Jerry, Matt Bowen and wife Melissa, Tripp Davis and wife Alison, Will Davis and wife Kaki; great grandchildren Brooke, Briana, Sofia, Jayden, Liam, Patrick, Julia, Alex, Christian, Bo, Wyatt, Sibby, Annalise and a brother, Richard Wallace and wife Beatrice of Farmville, VA.Preceding her in death were her son, John Dale Davis, two brothers and six sisters. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, December 21, 2019 at 2 PM in the Betty B. Jones Chapel of Brooks Lyon Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Black Walnut Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 20, 2019 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home and at other times at her home.
