Julia Wilkerson Buchanan

Julia Eva "Peggy" Wilkerson Buchanan of Clarksville, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at the age of 89.  Born in Halifax County on July 19, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Robert Corbett Wilkerson and the late Etta Matthews Wilkerson.  She was preceded in death by her husband, L.D. Buchanan.

Peggy was retired from Russell Stover Candies.  She loved to cook and work in the garden tending to her flowers, especially her azaleas.  She served many years on the social committee at her church.  As a hobby, Peggy worked tobacco to keep her active and up on the local news and she loved to walk everyday. She loved her dogs dearly.

She is survived by her son, Larry Buchanan(Frances) daughters, Donna Poole (Stevie) and Shelby Waggoner (Blake); 6 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; siblings, Marie Thomason, Phyllis Cook, Robert Corbett "Doc" Wilkerson(Kathy) and Mac Wilkerson(Becky).  In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Tom Wilkerson, Lloyd Wilkerson and David Wilkerson.

A Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, September 15, 2024 at Union Chapel Baptist Church with Reverend Jackie Wray officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, 2 PM - 3 PM at Union Chapel Baptist Church and all other times at Donna and Stevie's home, 1427 Hite Dr. Buffalo Junction, VA 24529.
