Julia Erline Newton Hudson

Mrs. Julia Erline Newton Hudson of South Boston went to her heavenly home at the age of 81 on Thursday, February 17, 2022.She graduated from Virginia Baptist School of Nursing in 1960. She was a labor and delivery nurse and delivered many babies at Halifax Regional Hospital and made many lifelong friends with the people she worked with. She was born in Mecklenburg County on September 23, 1940, the daughter of the late Raymond Blanks Newton and the late Lula Virginia Collins Newton and was married to the late Edwin David Hudson. She was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Martin Hudson. Erline’s family was her pride and joy.She is survived by her daughters, Amy Lynn Cole and husband Ronnie of South Boston and Mary Virginia Carter and husband Steven of Nathalie; son, Michael David Hudson and wife Donna of Virgilina; grandchildren, Luke Edwin Hudson, Eli Benjamin Hudson, Howard David Lammerts, Abigail Foster Lammerts, and Julia Virginia Carter; step grandchildren, Drew Taylor Morris and wife Hannah and Zachary Ryan Morris and wife Deirdre; step great grandchildren, Aria Brielle Morris and Elora Rylee Anne Morris. She is also survived by one brother and four sisters: Elwood Newton (Peggy), Gaynelle Vest (W.T), Daphine Kimball (Garry), Betty Crews (H.L), and Pattie Daniel (Hugh Robert).Nephews, Billy Vest, Marty Newton, Kenneth Newton; Nieces, Stephanie Mueller and Carol Smith and a host of great nephews and nieces. Erline was a member of her beloved North Fork Baptist Church, and previously Union Chapel Baptist Church, the church she grew up in and loved.She faithfully served as a Sunday School Teacher for over 50 years.She was always a missionary at heart, and was always helping people when they were in need.She was always “on-call” at home for someone with a sick child or a medical concern of their own.She was always ready to encourage and listen to many in need.She filled this role her whole life. She was a farmer's wife and would come home from the hospital to help on the farm every day, and loved raising baby chickens, calves and kittens for the children to enjoy.She loved working at the pumpkin stand every fall and had repeat customers for over 20 years that mainly came to see her. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation and love to Shannon Hatcher, Nancy Pulliam, Barbara Jean Hamlette, Janice Spencer, Sandra Hudson for their love and tender care of their mother. Funeral services for Mrs. Hudson will be held on Monday, February 21st at 2:00 P.M. at North Fork Baptist Church, Virgilina, Va. with Reverend Doug Ballew officiating. Visitation will be at 1:00 P.M. before the funeral and at other times at the home, 1014 Foster Lane, South Boston. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to North Fork Baptist Church, Missions Fund, 5124 North Fork Church Road, Virgilina, Va.
