Julia Welcher Rice

VIRGILINA, VA Mrs. Julia Welcher Rice of Virgilina, VA died Saturday, December 13, 2014 at the age of 81. She was born in Halifax Co., VA on December 23, 1932 the daughter of the late Alfred Preston Welcher and the late Lillie Gertrude Toddy Welcher and was married to Johnnie William Rice. Mrs. Rice was was a homemaker and was a member of Union Christian Church. Survivors include her husband, Johnnie William Rice of Virgilina; one son, Ray Rice and wife, Judy of Graham, NC; three daughters, Judy Meeler and husband, Russell of South Boston, VA, Renay Wilborn and husband, Junior of Virgilina, and Paula Stone and husband, Tim of Virgilina; eight grandchildren, Tammie Taylor, Tommie Rice, Lance Thames, Carolyn Ridge, Shawn Wilborn, Chelsea Wilborn, Lindsey Stone, and Sidney Stone; seven great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Union Christian Church with The Reverend Norman Talley officiating. Burial will follow in Virgilina Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 from 7 unitl 9 PM and at other times at the home, 1083 Wilborn Rd., Virgilina.
