June Puryear Young

VIRGILINA, VA Mrs. June Puryear Young passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Lynchburg General Hospital. Born in Halifax County on June 25, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Willie Lee Puryear and the late Myrtle Whitt Puryear and was married to the late John Merritt Young. June was a member of Union Christian Church in Virgilina. She was a strong and passionate woman about her family and loved all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by a son, Mike Young and wife, Karen of Halifax; daughter, Kathy Young Ambrose and husband, John of Scottsburg; Grandchildren, John F. Ambrose, Jr., Laura Beth Young, Matthew Thomas Young, James Merritt Ambrose, Joseph O’Brien Ambrose; 7 Great Grandchildren. Other than her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by numerous brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Union Christian Church at 2:00 PM with Reverend Norman Talley and Reverend Jim Kopco officiating. Burial will follow in Virgilina Cemetery.The family will receive friends on Friday, June 2, 2017 from 7-8:30 PM at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home and other times at her home in Virgilina.
