Kathryn "Kitty" Dawson Jones

HALIFAX - Mrs. Kathryn "Kitty" Dawson Jones of Halifax, VA died Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at the age of 89. She was born in Pittsylvania Co., VA on December 11, 1925 to the late Edward Binford Dawson, Sr. and the late Lizzie Izella Dawson and was married to the late Walter "Joe" Jones. Mrs. Jones was a long time employee of JP Stevens. She was a member of Harmony U.M.C. and attended Oak Level Presbyterian Church. Kitty was a great baker and loved to cook for everyone, loved working in her yard and canning. She also visited friends in nursing homes weekly to bring them goodies. Mrs. Jones is survived by two sons, Jimmy Cliborne and wife, Vicky of Halifax and Joel Cliborne and wife, Amy of Powhatan; two daughters, Jo Ann C. Yancey and husband, Herbert of Chesterfield and Kathy C. Shelton and husband, David of Norfolk; two grandsons, Tim L. Yancey of Midlothian and Jack Harper Shelton of Norfolk; two granddaughters, Chawn C. Bego and husband, Alex of South Boston and Schaefer Shelton of Norfolk; one great grandson, Silas Bego of South Boston; four brothers, Bill Dawson of Nathalie, Bob Dawson of Alton, Joe Dawson of Alton, and Warren Pulliam of Halifax; and one sister, Mary Ann D. Throckmorton of South Boston. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, E.B. Dawson, Jr., Maynard L. Dawson, James M. Dawson, and L. Melvin Dawson, and three sisters, Virginia D. Hunt, Helen F. Dawson, and Margaret "Polly" D. Reaves. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 6, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Oak Level Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Doctor Ed Melvin officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Christian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Oak Level Presbyterian Church on Friday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM and at other times her home, 4061 Oak Level Rd., Halifax.
