Katie Garrett Yancey

Clarksville, VA - Katie Mae Hayes Garrett Yancey, age 95, left us to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 10, 2017.Mrs. Yancey was the widow of John Roy Garrett, Sr. and Louis Yancey. She was born in Nelson, VA on March 16, 1922 to the late Fannie Mae Hayes Forlines and the late Morris Peyton Hayes. Mrs. Yancey was a 1941 graduate of Clarksville High School.She retired from the Sample Department at Burlington Industries and was a member of Jamieson Memorial United Methodist Church. Cherishing her memories are her daughter, Patsy Garrett Rice of Clarksville; son John Roy Garrett, Jr. of Junction City, KS; grandchildren John Rice, Patrick Rice, Christian Garrett and Christina Williams, eleven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 4 pm on Thursday, October 12, 2017 in the chapel at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home, 703 Virginia Avenue, Clarksville VA with burial to follow at Oakhurst Cemetery.The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service and at all other times at the home.The Reverends John Bright and Dr. Gregory Randall will be officiating.
