Mr. Killis Washington Thaxton, Jr. of 1173 Old Cluster Springs Rd., South Boston, VA died Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the age of 89. He was born in Halifax Co., VA on June 9, 1925 to the late Killis Washington Thaxton, Sr. and the late Mary Conner Thaxton and was married to Mary Price Thaxton. Mr. Thaxton was a WW II veteran of the U.S. Army and was a P.O.W. in Germany for 9 months. He was a loom fixer at Halifax Cotton Mill, owned his own taxi cab, and played in several bands. Killis was a member of Glenwood United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 8. Survivors include his wife, Mary Price Thaxton; a daughter, Jeanette T. Rogers and husband, Sammy of South Boston; a son, Daryl Evans Thaxton of South Boston; five grandchildren, Tracey Shotwell, Beth Francis, Melissa Thaxton, Allison Thaxton, and Tammy Thaxton; and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Larry Thaxton, Sr., daughter, Glenda Sue Thaxton, grandson, Larry Thaxton, Jr., and sisters, Irene Crenshaw and Pauline Green. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 3:00 PM at Glenwood United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 20 from 7 until 8:30 PM and at other times at the home.
