Kirk Douglas Gravitt

Kirk Douglas Gravitt of Clarksville, VA, passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at the age of 70. Born in Halifax County on February 6, 1952, he was the son of the late Dallas Aaron Gravitt and the late Alice Elizabeth Ford Gravitt. Kirk was a dedicated, life-long employee with Universal Leaf Tobacco – North American Division. He began his career with Universal Leaf Tobacco as a forklift operator and worked his way up and retired as Senior Vice President of the Leaf Department. After retiring from Universal Leaf, Kirk worked part-time as a head contract buyer for Sante Fe Tobacco Company in Oxford, NC. He also was a passionate, competitive bass fisherman, sponsored by Ranger Boats. In his leisure time, Kirk became an avid garden enthusiast and was always generous with the harvest of his labor. His philosophy was “Manners will take you further than any education in life”.

He is survived by his wife, Karla Daniel Gravitt; children, Kelly Gravitt Payne (Daniel) of South Boston, Karoline Gravitt Gregory (Ryan) of Hookerton, NC, Kirk Daniel Gravitt of Clarksville and Kade Dallas Gravitt of Boydton; grandchildren, Aidan, Luke, Noah, Larkin and Webb and brothers, Bobby Gravitt and Carlton Gravitt, both of South Boston. In addition to his parents, Kirk was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Gravitt.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M.  on Saturday, September 17, 2022, in the chapel at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the home at all other times prior to the memorial service.
