Larry Thomas Greenway

Larry Thomas Greenway, 75, passed away Saturday January 29, 2022, in his family home in Henderson, NC. Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 55 years, Gloria; son, Brian (Tracey); son, John Barnes (Vickie), and grandchildren Noah, Austin and Ella Barnes; sister, Jackie Greenway and special caretaker, Diane Cousins. Larry was proceeded in death by his parents, Louis and Margaret Greenway and son, Brad Greenway. Larry was born on January 21, 1947 in Henderson, NC. Larry graduated from Dabney High School in 1965 and went on to join the U.S. Air Force from 1966-1970, serving as a U.S. Air Force Honor Guard among other honorable duties. Larry held jobs at Burlington Industries and in 1976 went to carry on the legacy of the family business, Greenway Auto Salvage, until its retirement in 2005. Larry retired with a rank of E-8 First Sergeant Artillery Unit with twenty-four years of service to the Army National Guard in 1998. Larry served as a board member of Watkins Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Vance County Rescue Squad, where he was instrumental in his services to the local community. Larry loved his classic cars, beach and bluegrass music, summer fish fries at his lake home, laughing at jokes, and his many collectible antiques. Larry always cherished memories with his family and friends wherever he was. A celebration of Larry’s life will be held Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 2 pm at his home church, Poplar Creek Baptist (1371 Poplar Creek Road, Henderson, NC 27537). The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall and all other times at the family home (2671 US 158 Bypass Henderson, NC). In lieu of flowers the family asks to make donations to the Vance County Rescue Squad (PO Box 402, Henderson, NC 27537), Watkins Volunteer Fire Department (1590 Horseshoe Bend Rd, Henderson, NC; attention: Virginia Parrot), or Poplar Creek Baptist Church (1371 Poplar Creek Road, Henderson, NC 27537).
