Mr. Lawrence Raymond "Pop" Talley of Alton died Sunday, August 1, 2010 at the age of 90. He was born in Halifax Co. on May 27, 1920 to the late Robert and Victoria Cole Talley and was married to the late Doris Watts Talley. Mr. Talley was a retired farmer and retired owner/operator of L.R. Talley Grocery. He was a member of Black Walnut Baptist Church and was a charter member of Cluster Springs Vol. Fire Dept. and the Halifax Co. Saddle Club. Survivors include two sons, Lawrence Wayland Talley and wife, Nell of Alton and Kenneth Owen Talley and wife, Jeanne of Strasburg; a sister, Frances T. Puckett of Oxford, NC; a brother, Melvin Talley of South Boston; six grandchildren, Mitch Talley, Chris Talley, Robyn Pottage, Amanda Crevenke, Courtney Parker, and Kara Taylor; and seven great grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Talley Womack; two brothers, Elmo Talley and O'Neal Talley; and two sisters, Irene Cole and Ruth Cole. Graveside funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at 1:30 PM at Halifax Memorial Gardens with Rev. Raymond Wooten officiating. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home Tuesday night from 7 until 8:30 PM and at other times at the home of Wayland & Nell Talley, 1194 Snow Hill Rd., Alton.
