Lorene Carlton Spencer Lessing

Lorene Carlton Spencer Lessing of Henderson, NC, formerly of Clarksville, VA entered eternal rest on December 20, 2016 at home with her daughter, Eva Keeter.Lorene was born in Boydton, VA on August 6, 1923 to the late William Robert and Mary Coleman Carlton.She graduated from Boydton High School in 1941 and completed her education from Longwood College in Farmville, VA.Mrs. Lessing was a member of Clarksville Presbyterian Church.She retired from New York Life Insurance and was a teacher at Park View High School.In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands, Philip Terrance Spencer and James Frances Lessing, a son, Philip Terrance Spencer, Jr., brothers, Robert Edward Carlton and William E. Carlton, sisters, Mary Lee Carlton and Betty Hines.Cherishing her memories are her devoted daughter Eva Keeter, son Mark O’Neill, step children, Terri Zawaski, Pattie Strobel, Jim Lessing, Regina Lessing; grandchildren Cathy Ayscue (Danny Wayne), Charlie Keeter (Teresa), Debbie Keeter, Terry Keeter (Brenda), Brandi Hicks (Danny); great-grandchildren, Cameron Link (Brandon), Caleb Keeter, D.J. Ayscue, Danielle Ayscue, T.K. Keeter, Christopher Doss, Hunter Doss, Kelsey Hicks and great-great grandchild Ashlynn Link.Also surviving are sisters Lois Glasscock of Boydton, Vivian Moss of Wake Forest, NC; sister-in-law Charlotte Carlton of Boydton and many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Lessing will be conducted at Watkins Cooper Lyon Chapel, 703 Virginia Ave, Clarksville, VA at 12:00 noon on Saturday, December 31, 2016 with the Reverend Ralph McGowan officiating.The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.Burial will follow at Presbyterian Cemetery in Boydton, VA.
