Chase City, VA - Louie Smith, age 97, passed away on Monday, May 9, 2016.He was born in Skipwith, VA on September 25, 1918 to the late Addel Pettus and Edward Clark Smith.Mr. Smith served his country in the United States Army.He was an equipment operator with VDOT prior to his retirement.Louie was a member of St. Luke Baptist Church, and served there in many capacities.He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge 280 in Skipwith.He loved working in his yard and enjoyed life until the very end. Cherishing the memories of Louie Smith are his wife of 64 years, Alberta Smith, daughter, Brenda Smith Hatcher of Chase City, sons and daughters in law, Edward M. and Demetrius Smith of Fayetteville, NC, Eric B. and Wilma Smith of Durham, NC, Leon Craddock of Skipwith and brother, Calvin C. Smith of Philadelphia, PA.Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren and 1 great-great-great grandchild.Mr. Smith was preceded in death by son, Ernest Lewis, grandson, Erik Smith, and 8 brothers and sisters. As Mr. Smith had requested, there will be no funeral services.His family asks that those wishing to give memorials please consider The Alzheimer’s Association.
