Louis Peter Zarelli

Clarksville, VA – Capt. Louis Peter Zarelli, Jr., husband of Margaret Silva Zarelli, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at the age of 84. He was born on June 29, 1935, in Staten Island, NY, to the late Louis Phillip Zarelli and the late Clara Malavasi Zarelli. In 1952, Louis joined the United States Coast Guard Academy. He attained his dual Ph.D. in Air/Hydro Dynamics at MIT and Stephens Institute. He was qualified as a Coast Guard Aviator as well as an instructor of radio ops & procedures, search & rescue procedures, Seaman’s training and Coxswain. In 1975, he initiated the USCG Auxiliary Air Ops 3rd Dist. Louis retired in 1989 and became a civilian employee “boat builder” until 1994. He and his wife moved to Clarksville in 1995. In addition to his wife, Margaret, Louis is survived by a daughter, Janet Zarelli and a son, Nicholas Zarelli both of Tobyhanna, PA; grandchildren, Thomas Zarelli, Laura Zarelli and Linda Mason and a great grandson, Alexander Zarelli. Mass will be said at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Clarksville, VA. Father Rogelio Largoza will officiate the service.
