Lucy Elliott Chandler

August 17, 1926 — March 9, 2019

Virgilina, VA. - Mrs. Lucy Elliott Chandler, wife of Rufus Edward Chandler, Jr., went to be with her Lord on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at the age of 92. She was born in Halifax County, VA on August 17, 1926 the daughter of the late Edward Thomas Elliott and the late Virgie Hudson Elliott. Lucy graduated from Virgilina High School in 1942 and then attended Lynchburg Business College. She and her husband owned and operated Chandler’s One Stop. She was a member of Florence Avenue Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school, was the church treasurer, and a clerk in the church. She also mentored the young ladies in the church, was a member of the WMU, and was involved with Vacation Bible School. In addition to donating her time, she also supported the church financially. Mrs. Chandler is survived by her husband of over 73 years; two sons, Donald Chandler and Roger Chandler and wife Linda; daughter, Jean Chandler Haddock; numerous grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and her beloved pet, Rachel. She was predeceased by her parents; three sisters, Margaret Smith, Virginia Puryear, and Elizabeth Marshall; two brothers, James Elliott and Herbert Elliott; and a daughter in law, Donna Chandler. Graveside services will be held on Monday, March 11, 2019 in Virgilina Cemetery at 11:00AM with the Reverend Herbert Brown officiating. The family will receive friends throughout the day Monday at the home, 7235 Florence Ave., Virgilina, VA 24598.
