Lucy Reekes Snelling

Miss Lucy Reekes Snelling, 87, died Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born in Chase City, Va. to Arthur Browne Snelling and Sarah Gladys Reekes on November 28, 1923. She studied sculpture and art at Virginia Commonwealth University and during WW II was employed by Glenn L. Morton. She lived and worked in Quatemala, Mexico as well as in the New York garment district designing displays for department stores. She later worked for a mannequin company for 30 years. Lucy moved back to Mecklenburg County in 1976. Miss Snelling is survived by her sister, Marjorie "Teeny" Keeling of Keysville and dear friend, Thomas Emory. Also surviving are eighteen nieces and nephews . She is predeceased by her sisters, Mary "Sue" Emory and Jean Poudrier and brothers, Richard Temple Snelling, Edwin B. Snelling, Charles T. Snelling, Henry "Doc" Finch Snelling, and Arthur Browne Snelling, Jr. A graveside service will be held on Saturday May 21, 2011 at 11:30 am at the Presbyterian Cemetery in Boydton.
