Luther Erket Talley

Luther Erket Talley, 93, of the High Plains community, born on August 22, 1927, in Woodsdale, NC, passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at the Duke University Medical Center. He is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Nettie Coleman Talley. He was the son of the late Royal B. and Odel S. Talley. Mr. Talley was a farmer most of his life and worked at the Eaton Corporation until he retired in 1992. He loved his family, friends, and community. He was an avid hunter, gardener, and enjoyed cutting wood. He is survived by his nine children: Jean T. Maddy and fiancé, Michael Smith of Hopewell, VA, Frank Talley and wife, Barbara M. Talley of Roxboro, NC, Joyce T. Schutte and husband, Earl of Cluster Springs, VA, Harry Talley of South Boston, VA, Dorothy T. Yarborough and husband, Gerald of Sanford, NC, Norman Talley and wife, Brenda R. Talley of Virgilina, VA, Ruth T. Compton of their home in Roxboro, NC, Faye T. Martin and husband, Grady of Roxboro, NC and Kaye T. Hansen and husband Jim of Raleigh, NC; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; step brother, Royster Epps and wife, Esther of Hopewell, VA; sisters, Lythia Slaughter and husband, Jerry of Charlotte, NC and Mamie Grubb of Charlotte, NC; sister-in-law, Betty K. Talley of Burlington, NC. He is preceded in death by brothers, James, Oliver, Daniel, Carlton, and Edgar. Services will be on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Calvary Baptist Church in Roxboro, NC. A walkthrough visitation will be held in the church from 1pm until 2pm. A graveside service will follow in the church cemetery. Officiating the service will be Pastor William Wheeler of Calvary Baptist Church, his nephew, Reverend Charles Martin and his son, Reverend Norman Talley. Music will be provided by Theresa M. Coleman. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 2663 High Plains Rd., Roxboro, NC 27573.
