Mr. Luther Berkley Yancey of 1019 W. Oak Hill Drive, Halifax, VA died Sunday, January 1, 2012 at the age of 81. He was born in Halifax Co., VA on July 17, 1930 to the late Willie Thornton Yancey and the late Lottie Thomas Yancey and was married to Ruby Hughes Yancey for 62 years. Mr. Yancey was a retired truck driver for Yancey Trucking Co. and was a member of Glenwood United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Ruby Hughes Yancey of Halifax, VA; three daughters, Pamela Yancey Conner and husband, Butch of Scottsburg, VA, Patricia Yancey Owen and husband, Brice of Scottsburg, VA, and Wanda Yancey Clark and husband, Dale of Marietta, GA; a sister, Eunice Y. Slayton of Vernon Hill, VA; a brother, Melvin Yancey and wife, Natalie of South Boston, VA; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Virginia Y. Harris, Frances Y. Brown, and Lottie Irene Yancey (at age 5). Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Glenwood United Methodist Church with Rev. Bob Woodfin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 2, 2012 from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM at Brooks Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
