Mrs. Maggie Yates Garnett of 4061 N. Terrys Bridge Rd., Halifax died Thursday, January 6, 2011 at the age of 77. She was born in Halifax Co. on February 25, 1933 to the late Albert Yates, Sr. and the late Molly Duffer Yates and was married to the late Charlie Mooreland Garnett. Mrs. Garnett was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher and was a Hospice volunteer. She worked in case management for the Southside Community Services Board. Survivors include a daughter, Dianne Canada and husband, Danny of Martinsville; a grandson, Ryan Canada and wife,Paige of Martinsville; a granddaughter, Allyson Kendrick and husband, Jessi of Kernersville, NC; a great granddaughter, Chloe Canada; a great grandson, Hunter Kendrick; four sisters, Inez Vaughan of Scottsburg, Helen Rice of Garrettsville,OH, Louise Conner of Scottsburg, and Janie Hudson of Richmond; a brother, Albert Yates, Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a sister, Lydia Wyatts, and a brother, Chester Yates. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Glen Lutz and Rev. Vance Midgett officiating. Burial will follow in Saxe Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home on Friday, January 7, 2011 from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM and at Brooks Funeral Home Friday evening from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM.
