Margaret Ann Aull

Margaret Ann "Peggy" Burroughs Aull began her eternal life on Saturday, March 19, 2011, in Lubbock, Texas. Her memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, March 22, in the chapel of the First Baptist Church of Amarillo under the direction of Brown Funeral Directors. Dr. Winfred Moore will officiate. Family members will then gather in the Grand River Chapel on the campus of William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri, for a memorial service at 11:00 AM on March 24. Rev. Jane Lyon, pastor of Antioch Baptist Church of Red Oak, Virginia, will officiate. She and her husband Mike Lyon are dear family friends from Clarksville, VA. Interment will take place at 2:00 PM on March 24 at the New Hope Cemetery in Liberty, Missouri. Peggy's grandson-in-law, Dr. Neil Westbrook, pastor of Neel Road Baptist Church in Salisbury, NC, will officiate. Peggy was born on January 14, 1918, to the Rev. Ursa Earl Burroughs and Vera Alice Parker Burroughs. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Frederick Aull, their infant son Michael Frederick Aull, her parents and her brother Dr. Maxey Parker Burroughs. Because her father's pastorates took the family into many fellowships, Peggy lived in several Iowa communities and was graduated from Jefferson High School. She met George Aull, her husband of over sixty-one years, at William Jewell College, and she was graduated from there in 1940. On March 8, 1940, she and George were married at the First Baptist Church in Borger, Texas. Her father performed the wedding ceremony. Peggy taught English and Latin in the Borger Independent School District for over thirty years and earned a Masters of English from West Texas State Teachers College. The Latin phrase curriculum vitae, which means "course of life," reflects her passion for her own learning and the learning of others, including her devotion to teaching English and Latin. Peggy was the author of a weekly column entitled "Aull's Well" which appeared in the Borger News Herald for over twenty-five years. Some of her special interests included Friends of the Hutchinson County Library, Tri-City Concert Association, Hutchinson County Museum, and several genealogical organizations. She also served her community through her active membership in the First Baptist Church of Borger. Peggy is survived by her two daughters, George Ann Neas and husband Dwight of Lubbock, Texas, and Vera Jo Springer and husband Larry of Clarksville, Virginia. Peggy's grandchildren who survive her are Derek Thaxton Springer of Richmond, VA; Whitney Leigh Westbrook of Salisbury, NC; Robin Jolie Fowler of Raleigh, NC; Matt Neas of Austin, TX; and Mark Neas of Sugar Land, TX. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren: Parker and Hadley Westbrook, William Fowler; Taylor, Brooke and Lauren Neas, and Luke Neas. Peggy's lasting legacy will be that she embraced the lives of her entire family and their generations and encouraged countless Borger students and friends.
