Margie Gay Shiflett

Oxford, NC - Margie Gay Zimmerman Shiflett, widow of Claude Zimmerman and Bennie Shiflett, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at the age of 93. Margie was born on January 16, 1925 in Nash County, NC to the late James Thomas and Lester Liles Gay. She left Nash County in 1945 and traveled the world with her husband as he served in the United States Army. She was formerly a member at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Fayetteville, NC and of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years. She was a member of Grassy Creek Baptist Church.Margie was the last surviving of 19 siblings. Cherishing the memories of Margie Shiflett are daughter Carol “Peaches” Temple of Bahama, NC; son Jimmie Claude Zimmerman (Debra) of Cabot, AR; grandchildren James Temple (Nancy) of Grassy Creek, NC, Claudia Hall (Lin) of Hillsborough, NC, James Allen Zimmerman (Debbie) of Jacksonville, FL and Christian J Zimmerman (Wendy) of Cabot, AR. Also surviving are 9 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 26 at Grassy Creek Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends before the service from 12:30 – 1:45. The Reverends Cameron Currin and Jane Lyon will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Grassy Creek Baptist Church, 9142 Grassy Creek Rd., Bullock, NC 27507.
