Marion Yancey Petroff, 97, of Alexandria, VA, peacefully passed away at her home on August 22, 2018. Marion was born on September 2, 1920 in Clarksville, VA to Frank and Lily Yancey. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, to whom she was married for over 50 years, LCDR Christopher C. Petroff, USN (RET) and brother, Franklin Yancey. Marion graduated from Westhampton University of Richmond in 1940 with a BS in Biology and a minor in Chemistry.She went on to teach these subjects in Blackstone and Farmville, VA and Annapolis, MD, where she would meet and marry Christopher.Marion was passionate about education but she was also devoted to her faith, as she and Chris were founding members of their church, St. Aidans Church, and felt deeply convicted to help in church activities.She also loved to cook, collect, and try new recipes and was well known to grow her own crops for preserving and canning later.More than anything, Marion relished the relationships she fostered throughout her life and enjoyed nothing more than staying in touch with the many friends she has made, and lives she has touched. She is survived by her son, Frank (Rosemary) Petroff; daughters, Martha and Catherine Petroff; grandchildren, Christopher F. and Matthew J. Petroff; and niece, Cynthia (Jim) Schumaker. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at Saint Aidan's Episcopal Church, 8531 Riverside Rd., Alexandria, VA, 22308. Viewing will begin at 10 a.m., Memorial Service at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Memory of Marion to Saint Aidan's Episcopal Church.
