Marion Walker Smith

South Boston, VA. - Mrs. Marion Walker Smith, 99, died Friday, New Year’s Day, January 1, 2016. She was born in Mecklenburg County on September 21, 1916 to the late Charlie Clark and Sally Burnett Walker. Marion was a graduate from Clarksville High School in 1935 and was married to Robert Walton Smith on December 28, 1936. She was a member of Aarons Creek Baptist Church. Marion retired after working for thirty-four years at Burlington Industries. Mrs. Smith is survived by grandchildren, Lysaundra C. (John) Smith Jones of Cluster Springs and Gary Nicklaus (Blair) Haymes of Wilmington, NC; daughter-in-law, Rachel Smith; great-grandchildren, Hannah Martin, Mallory Martin, Elijah Armstrong, and Noah Armstrong of Cluster Springs; and great great grandson, Brayden Dawson. Marion is predeceased by brothers, Douglas Walker, Carl Walker, Hopkins Walker, Joe Walker, Mark Walker, and William Walker; sisters, Isabelle Galbraith and Lucille Matthews; daughter, Meredith Ward; and son, Robert Smith.Visitation for friends and family will be Sunday, January 3, 2016 from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, at Aarons Creek Baptist Church in Virgilina, Va. officiated by the Reverend Joe McDowell. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
