Mr. Marvin Owen Carter, of Magnolia Glen, Raleigh, NC, formerly of Boydton, Va. passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2014. "M.O." was born April 18, 1919 in Mecklenburg County to the late Charlie Delk and Lola Jane Reese Carter. In addition to parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Edward Carter, Arthur Garland Carter and Walter Leslie Carter. Survivors include daughters, Martha Jane Moss and Christi A. Lewis of Cobbs Creek, VA. and Mary Elizabeth "Libba" Dupree and husband, Rick, of Fuquay-Varina, NC. His grandson, Jonathan Andrew "Andy" Moss and wife, Karen, great granddaughters, Mackenzie and Kyla Moss, all of Cobbs Creek, Va.; sister-in-law, Velma Ferrell of Richmond, Va.; many nieces and nephews; and Goddaughter, Beth Park Shore of Fuquay-Varina, NC also survive. "M.O." was a World War II Veteran, having served in the Army Air Corps. He served Mecklenburg County government for 35 years, first as Deputy County Treasurer, later retiring as Commissioner of the Revenue. After retirement, he enjoyed serving as Mayor of the town of Boydton. He was a member of the American Legion and Boydton Ruritan Club, as well as serving on various committees of the Boydton United Methodist Church. His passions were antiques, gardening, and historical restoration. "M.O." always had a project, which he said kept him young. The family is deeply grateful for the incredible devotion of long-time caregiver, Denise Rodriguez, as well as all of the caregivers from Home Instead. The family is also grateful for the support of Hospice and his family at Magnolia Glen. Services will be held at Easters United Methodist Church, 279 Easters Road, Boydton, Va at 1PM on Saturday, July 12, 2014 with interment following in Easters Cemetery. Following the service, the family will receive friends at the Boyd Tavern in Boydton, Va. In honor of the devotion and friendship of Dr. Billy Dunlap, the family asks that donations be made to Transitions Life Care Hospice, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
