Mary Ann Satterfield

March 8, 1935 — January 5, 2024

Mary Ann Satterfield of Red Oak, Virginia went to her Heavenly home on January 5, 2024 at the age of 88.  She was born in Charlotte County, Virginia on March 8th, 1935 to the late Isaac Dudley Rutledge and Bertha Cassada Rutledge. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Henry Satterfield Sr.

Mary Ann held many jobs over the years.  She drove a school bus for Mecklenburg County Public Schools for 28 years.  She also worked at Burlington Mills, tobacco farms, caregiver for the elderly, school custodian and homemaker.

Mary Ann loved yard work, gardening, and working in her beautiful flower beds.  She also enjoyed crafting, eating out, riding four-wheelers with her husband James, taking trips to the mountains and spending time with friends.

She is survived by daughters, Betty Kramer of Halifax, VA and Rita Cox (Paul) of South Boston, VA; son, Isaac Nelson Inge; brother, Warren Rutledge (Faye) of Red Oak, VA; stepsons, Steve Satterfield (Jackie), Doug Satterfield (Jennifer) and James Satterfield, Jr (Lisa) all of Gretna, VA; stepdaughter, Sandra Hedden (Tobin) of Texas; sisters-in-law, Virginia Lowery and Gloria Matthews of South Boston, VA ; brother-in-law, Jesse Satterfield of Danville, VA; grandchildren, Crystal Oliver (Colin) of Chase City, VA, Brian Cox Dorado (Bradley) of Carlsbad, NM, Donny Kramer (Gracie) of Kent, Washington, Skyler Inge and Josh Milton; great granddaughters, Madison Oliver, Brooklyn Oliver, AnneMarie Graver; and good friends, Donnie & Mary Ann King, Polly Toombs Jones, Avis Jones and Christine Faulkner.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two half brothers and five half sisters.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Halifax Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, 1-2 PM at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home.

The family requests those wishing to give memorials to please consider a charity of your choice.
