Mary Edith Jones Yancey

Mrs. Mary Edith Jones Yancey, 89, widow of Emmett Lee Yancey died Sunday, September 5, 2004 in Norfolk. Born October 1, 1914, Edith was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Liddie Belle Newton Jones. Reared in Mecklenburg County, she married Emmett Lee Yancey on November 12, 1932. In 1941 they moved to Norfolk where they made their home and raised their children. Funeral services will be 11 AM Wednesday at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home with Reverend Wade Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in Oakhurst Cemetery. Mrs. Yancey is survived by sons, Leonard Yancey of Chesapeake and George Yancey of Nacogdoches, TX; daughters, Josephine Y. Lindsey of Hahira, GA; Peggy Y. Burton of Norfolk; and Nell Y. Seeds of Portsmouth. Seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive her. She was pre-deceased by daughters, Pauline Yancey and Sarah Lee Yancey; and brothers, Luther Jones of Athens, TN and Floyd Jones of Nelson.
