CLARKSVILLE, VA - Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Jones, widow of Andrew Travis Jones, Jr., went to be with “her Jesus” on Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at the age of 87. She was born in Mecklenburg County, Virginia on October 18, 1931, the daughter of the late Claude Vest Jones and the late Ive Adcock Jones. Mary Elizabeth was a 1950 graduate of Roxboro High School. She worked as a bookkeeper in various places but was best known for her years of service with Moore’s Service Center. There in addition to bookkeeping, she sold license plates and county decals for Moore’s DMV franchise. After retirement, Mary Elizabeth worked at Clarksville Fine Jewelry and also taught quilting at WinMar Crafts. She was a devoted member of Clarksville Baptist Church. Mrs. Jones is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Brenda and Clift Morgan of Clarksville and Karen and Tim Kennedy of Sanford, NC; grandchildren, Jaime M. Beard and husband, Al, Kyle Andrew Kennedy, Tiffany Lynn Cruz, and Shelby Rene Kennedy and great grandchild, Corey Alexander Shaw. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents, as well as a son, Claude Larry Jones, and a grandson, Corey Clifton Morgan. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2019, at Clarksville Baptist Church with the Reverend Jane Lyon and the Reverend Dr. Greg Randall officiating. Burial will follow in Oakhurst Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home on Friday, February 8, from 6 – 8 p.m., and also in the church fellowship hall from 12:30 – 1:45 before the service on Saturday.They also will receive friends at all other times at the home.
