Mary Rush Cole

Mrs. Mary Rush Cole, 91, widow of Samuel Drummond Cole, Jr. died Sunday, September 5, 2004 at her home in Chase City. Born October 31, 1912 and reared in Brookneal, she was the daughter of the late Lacy Walter Rush, Sr. and Lillie Maude Wickliffe Rush. She was a graduate of Brookneal High School class of 1930 and attended Averette College. A member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Mrs. Cole led in the efforts of the remodeling of St. John's. She worked for a lawyer, the school system, and had been a secretary at various companies before retiring as a Kindergarten teacher. Mrs. Cole also served on the Mecklenburg Commission. She is survived by daughter, Wyc Cole of Chase City; and son and daughter-in-law, Stuart Kirkham and Sharon Boyd Cole of Norfolk, VA. Three grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive Mrs. Cole. She was pre-deceased by son, S. Drummond Cole, III. A memorial service will be held 12 Noon Wednesday at St. John's Episcopal Church with Father Doug Geddes officiating. Committal will be private at Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg, VA.
