Mary Lacks Royster

Mary Lacks Royster, 88, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at the Chase City Health and Rehab Center in Chase City. She was the daughter of Lucas and Matilda Lacks and was born October 4, 1922 in Halifax County. A graduate of Wylliesburg High School with the Class of 1939, Mary worked for Burlington Industries and later J.P. Stevens in Drakes Branch. A member of Antioch Baptist Church, funeral services will be held there Friday at 11 AM with the Reverend Jane Lyon officiating. Interment will follow in Public Fork Christian Church Cemetery. Mary was preceded in death by her husbands, Beverly Baptist Farrar and Don William Royster, and her daughter, Susan F. Peregoy. She is survived by her grandsons, Beverly Daniel Peregoy of Red Oak and Thomas "Tommy" Wayne Peregoy of Clarksville, sister, Ida Lacy of Richmond, and step-daughter and step-son-in-law, Merle and Harvey Smith of Randolph. Her five great-grandchildren also survive. The family will receive friends prior to the service starting at 10AM at the church.
