Mary Brandon Smith

SOUTH BOSTON Mary Brandon Smith, our precious Mama, Mema, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend went home to be with her Lord and loved ones on Wednesday morning, June 22, 2022 at the age of 98. Born in Halifax County on December 19, 1923, she was the daughter of the late John Irving Brandon and the late Rebecca Gordon Brandon.She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Randolph Smith, Sr. Mary was retired from JP Stevens Company. She was a gentle, loving soul and above all else she was a servant to others. She was known to have a "green thumb" with her plants and flowers. She is survived by daughter, Gayle S. Haley and husband, Bill; son, Roy R. "Randy" Smith, Jr and wife, Dale Bates-Smith; grandchildren, Sheri H. Swan (Tim) of Winter Garden, FL, B. Douglas Haley, Jr (Julie) of Lynchburg, Roy R. "Trey" Smith, III and Jesse Elijah Smith of South Boston; step grandchildren, Charles "Chuck" A. Bates, V (Mandy) of Alton, Austin, Matthew, Jordan & Brandon Swan and their children of Florida; great grandchildren, Maryah Haley, Kayla Haley and Elijah Wallen; step great grandchildren, Maylee & Hattie Bates; sisters, Edith Adams, Connie Brandon and Elva Huckaby. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Berkley "B.C." Brandon; and sister, Eunice Long. A Memorial Service will be held at Harmony United Methodist Church on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at 3:00 PM with Reverend Robert Hardy officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, 2-3 PM at the church and at other times the homes of Gayle & Bill Haley and Randy & Dale Smith.
