CLARKSVILLE, VA. Mary Cook Wallen, 81, died on Friday, September 30, 2016. She was born in Philadelphia, PA on November 1, 1934 to the late William E. and Annie Lee Powell Cook. She was raised in Roxboro, NC. On June 21, 1952 she married James “Phillip” Wallen. Mary was known by all for her great cooking and warm hospitality. The people of the neighborhood saw her as a surrogate mother. Mrs. Wallen is survived by her son, James “Donnie” Wallen (Lisa Meade) of Clarksville; brothers, Tony Cook and Billy Cook: grandchildren, Tina Willis (Charlie), Justin Wallen (Jesse Price), India Wallen (Chris Casey); and great-grandchildren, Tripp Willis, Daisy Willis, Natalee Casey, and Delilah Willis; other family, Linda Shearin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Phillip; and her brothers, Albert Cook and Junior Cook. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Sunday, October 2, 2016 with the Reverend Jane Lyon officiating.
