SOUTH BOSTON, VA May Wade Oliver James, widow of the late Stover S. James, Sr., of South Boston, Va., passed away Monday, February 25, 2019 at the age of 93.She was born in Halifax County on November 9, 1925 and was the daughter of the late Banks Wilkins Oliver and the late Ethel Bradshaw Oliver. She was also the granddaughter of the late John and Nannie Bradshaw of Alton. May Wade was a former member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church where she played the piano from age 10 to 26. Then, she played for years at Faith Baptist Church (now Ash Avenue Baptist Church) where she later became a member. She was active in volunteer work with community activities that included the Bloodmobile, South Boston Museum, YMCA, in which she was a member of the board, Good Samaritan, Halifax Hospital, Battle of Staunton River Bridge, AARP, Tuesday Woman’s Club, and for over 50 years in three organizations: state and local chapters of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, American Legion Auxiliary and Woodmen of the World, Lodge 106. She is survived by sons, John Banks James of Alton, VA., and Colonel (retired) Stover S. James, Jr., US Army, and wife, Terry of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter, Wendy James Woltz and husband, Benjamin of Cary, NC; grandchildren, Elizabeth Mia Woltz Peters and husband, Jeff of Holly Springs, NC, Zachary Benjamin Woltz of Raleigh, NC and Jessica Hope Woltz of Cary, NC; great grandson, Wyatt Jeffrey Peters of Holly Springs, NC and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Nancy Oliver Havens, Phillip B. Oliver, John Oliver, and Charles Oliver. Memorial services for Mrs. James will be Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Ash Avenue Baptist Church with Reverend Tim Mull officiating. Burial will be private.The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church, with a luncheon, following the service.
