SOUTH BOSTON Melba Amerson Fender of South Boston, VA, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at the age of 76. Born in Hahira, GA on December 14, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Isabelle Miley Amerson and R.J. Amerson. Melba married her husband, David Varnedoe Fender, Jr. in 1983. They lived in Valdosta, GA and San Diego, CA before moving to South Boston in 2000. He preceded her in death. Melba took great pride in her appearance as well as tending her garden and her home. She enjoyed growing flowers, baking and birds. She took pleasure in sharing that love with her daughter, ever pointing out various birds. She was a member at Dan River Baptist Church. Melba is survived by her daughter, Audrey J. Shaw of South Boston and sister, Patricia Bramlett of Albany, GA. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Martha Plair and Jack Amerson. Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M . on Monday, October 25 in the chapel at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home with Reverend Tony Brooks officiating.The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.Following the service, interment will be in First Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery.
