Melvin William Bane

Scottsburg, VA Mr. Melvin William Bane, husband of Christine Womack Bane, passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at the age of 89.Born in Halifax County on November 15, 1929, he was the son of the late Wesley Daniel Bane and the late Blanchie Thomas Bane. Melvin was a member of Dan River Baptist Church and retired from Daystrom Furniture Company.He loved being outside and collected Coca Cola memorabilia. In addition to his wife Christine of the home, he is survived by a daughter, Theresa Stevens and husband, Terry of Halifax; grandchildren, Timothy Bane and wife, Sharon of Coinjock, NC, Laura Conner of Nelson, VA, Courtney Garland of Halifax and Casey Garland of Halifax; great grandchildren, Makayla Trent, Andrew Bane, Matthew Bane, Austin Bane, Braelyn Conner, Khloe Conner, and Bentley Glass. He was preceded in death by a son, William Len Bane; brothers, Elvin Bane, Albert Bane, and Lewis Bane; and sisters, Dora Coates, and Mary Sue Lindsey. Funeral Services for Melvin Bane will be held on Friday, January 11, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Brooks Lyon Betty B. Jones Chapel with Reverend Doug Gibson officiating. Interment will follow in Dan River Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service 1:00–2:00 PM at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home on Friday, January 11 and at other times the home, 1031 Temple Hill Road, Scottsburg, VA.
