Melvin Marion Honeycutt, 86, husband of Rebecca Rice Honeycutt, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2013 at Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston. Mr. Honeycutt was born July 26, 1927 to the late Oliver John Honeycutt and Effie Mae Huneycutt in Kannapolis, NC. A veteran of the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, Mr. Honeycutt worked for Morgan Lumber Company as a sawer. Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 5pm at Union Christian Church with the Reverend Norman Talley officiating. In addition to his wife of 68 years, Mr. Honeycutt is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca Marion H. Phillips of Virgilina; Rita H. and Bruce Daniel of Oxford, NC; and Rachel H. and Frank Drake of Stovall, NC; and son and daughter-in-law, Melvin Paul Honeycutt and Donna Elliott of Ringgold. His grandchildren, Vicky and Bill Cole, Adam West, Robert Daniel, Christopher Drake, and Ashley Drake and great grandchildren, Jobeth and Chase Weddle, John Arthur Cole, Savannah West and Drew West also survive. He was preceded in death by a son, John Norman Honeycutt, and son-in-law, Thomas D. Phillips. The family will receive friends at the home of Rebecca Honeycutt.
