Melvin Eugene Rogers

Mr. Melvin Eugene Rogers of 1085 Myers Rd., Halifax, VA died Monday, August 22, 2011 at the age of 75. He was born in Georgia on April 7, 1936 to the late John Lewis Rogers and the late Susie Jane Lindsey Rogers Kennedy and was married to Mary Elizabeth Alford Rogers. Mr. Rogers was a member of Revelation Baptist Church and was a past President of the Moose Lodge of South Boston. He was the owner of Melvin E. Rogers Nursery & Landscaping Contractor for over 45 years, and coached various Little League and Pee Wee Football teams in Halifax and South Boston. Survivors include his wife, Mary Alford Rogers of Halifax, VA; a daughter, Dawn Elizabeth Percival and her husband, Tim of Halifax, VA; a son, Ricky Melvin Rogers and his wife, Penny B. of Virgilina, VA; two sisters, Bobbie Fowler and Sarah Frances Kennedy; two granddaughters, Brynn N. Rogers and Ashley R. Rose; a step-grandson, John C. Hopkins; three great-grandchildren, Camden Jones, Noah Smith and Londyn Fallen; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Austin Rogers and one sister, Kathryn Rogers. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 3:00 PM at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Bryant and Rev. John B. Alford officiating. Interment will be at Halifax Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at his home.
