Merritt Wright Wilson

Merritt Wright Wilson of South Boston passed away at his home on Sunday, June 25, 2023 at the age of 86. He was born in North Carolina on March 26, 1937 to the late Asa Wright and the late Louise Long Wilson.  He was preceded in death by his wife,  Shelby Jean Elliott Wilson.

Merritt retired from J.P. Stevens after 35 years of employment.  A familiar face at the dances in Halifax County and Roxboro, he loved dancing and music and could always be seen sporting his cowboy hat and boots.  He never met a stranger, always talking with anyone he met.  He loved his family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Mitchell Wright Wilson and Sharon Wilson New (Gerald); grandchildren, Jennifer Martin (Dwayne), Mitchell Wilson, Brandon Wilson, Shelby Reagan (Chris), James Reagan III (Ansley), Heather New, Amanda New (Bobby) and Taylor Wilson; great grandchildren, Makenzie, Laci, Jaxon, Axl, Stella, Boss and Karlie; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Shelby Darlene Reagan; siblings, A.G. Wilson, Curtis Wilson, Jerry Wilson and Christine Bates.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow in the Wilson Family Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM and other times at the home.
