Murray Stephen "Steve" Chipps

Mr. Murray Stephen "Steve" Chipps, Sr. of 1171 Cage Tr., South Boston, VA died Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at the age of 72. He was born in Clarksburg, WV on June 12, 1941 to the late John Robert Murray Chipps and the late Leota Hope Kelley Chipps and was married to Rita Cash Chipps. Mr. Chipps was a First Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, retiring after 22 years of service. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 8243 and American Legion Post 8. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Kelly Jean Ahearn and husband, Owen of South Boston, VA; a son, Murray Stephen Chipps, Jr. and wife, Nancy of South Boston, VA; two step sons, Chad Michael Conner of Halifax, VA and Brandon Neil Conner of Scottsburg, VA; a sister, Beverly Miller and husband, Otis of Raleigh, NC; mother-in-law, Virginia Cash; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and two beloved dogs, Bowzer and Mr. Jingles. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Sarah C. Chipps and a son, Kevin Mark Chipps, Sr.. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Vance Midgett officiating. Graveside military rites will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home Friday night from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM and at other times at the home.
